Institutional issues    Since its foundation, the European Social Observatory has been a recognised source of analysis and understanding of the issues at stake in the reforms of the European treaties both from a social perspective as well as from the citizens’ point of view. This work falls within and is carried out under the Citizenship and the Future of Europe rubrics of the European Social Policy Journal Digest, which has been edited by the OSE since 1994.

 

Since the working paper was published following the adoption of the Maastricht Treaty (Summary analysis of the Treaty of Maastricht), the OSE has participated in projects enjoying the support of the Belgian public authorities and the European Trade Union Confederation. Thus, following the adoption of the Amsterdam Treaty, the OSE drafted a supporting document at the conference held on the issue of "Immigration and Citizenship in Europe after the Amsterdam Summit " (November 1997). The monitoring and analysis of the reforms underway and the debates on the future of Europe have been subject to follow-up in two OSE information letters: CIGinfo and Demain L'Europe. Other articles have been published in Notabene or in "l'Année sociale européenne" in cooperation with the l'Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). The OSE has also cooperated with the Federal Trust and the Socio-Political Research and Information Centre. The OSE also cooperates with IPSE, the European Social Protection Institute: different interventions of the OSE as part of the work of the European Convention and the European Social Model). Following the work on the European Convention, the OSE organised seminars and conferences in cooperation with the European Trade Union Confederation (conference held on 12 and 13 July 2004).
