Health Care and EU integration Specialist fields : The impact of European integration on national healthcare systems

	Short Biography
Rita Baeten, master of social sciences, is a researcher at the Observatoire Social Européen. Her research activities focus on the impact of European integration on national healthcare systems and on their social character.   Her research topics include themes such as patient mobility in the EU; healthcare services as services in the internal market; EU pharmaceutical policies; EU-level co-operation in the field of healthcare. She was coordinator of the OSE contribution to the “Europe for patients” project, a research project on patient mobility funded by the European Commission.  She advises the Belgian federal authorities on EU level developments with a potential impact on healthcare in Belgium. During the Belgian presidency of the EU in 2001 she co-ordinated the scientific preparation and follow-up of the presidency conference on the impact of European integration on national healthcare systems.   She has been a policy advisor on healthcare issues to Belgian ministers of social affairs and public health for many years.
