The discussion will be introduced by Elise Willame, former President of the European Social Protection Committee. The presentation will be discussed by Jos Berghman, Professor at the Catholic University of Leuven. In recent decades labour market reforms have led to the growing relevance of new so-called “atypical” jobs, and income security during old-age has been challenged by pension reforms. As a result of both trends, some questions are still to be addressed: to what extent do the new “atypical” contracts provide social protection against old-age? Which are the pension prospects, of those (mostly young) workers who spend at least a part of their career in flexible employment relationships ? The meeting will focus on these tensions and other relevant questions by presenting the conclusions of the research task ‘Flexible Today, Secure Tomorrow?’ chaired by K. Hinrichs (University of Bremen), M. Jessoula (University of Milan) and N.
