A Model for Implementing Sustainable and Qualitative Growth in the EU

This research partnership between the OSE and the Centre for European Studies aims to address the topic of sustainable growth within the EU. In particular, the project focuses on a definition of sustainable and qualitative growth, past and current developments in innovation and governance, and recommended policy proposals. As sustainable growth becomes more of a necessity with an increasing global population, diminishing of natural resources, and issues such as climate change and pollution, the project discusses possible solutions for the EU, taking into consideration the setbacks caused by the current economic and financial crisis. Points raised include the use of alternate indicators (‘beyond GDP’) for measuring well-being, the pathway towards Europe 2020 goals in different member states, and the continued development of renewable or more efficient energy technologies.
