Social developments in the European Union 2012

-

The OSE has been contracted by the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) to conduct research, which resulted in a book on the “Social developments in the European Union 2012”. The 14th edition of this publication features authors such as Paul De Grauwe (From financial to social and political risks in the Eurozone), Alexander Trechsel and Claudius Wagemann (The EU in 2012: political and institutional tensions) and Georg Feigl, Sven Hergovich and Miriam Rehm (Beyond GDP: can we re-focus the debate?). In the concluding chapter, David Natali proposes a vademecum to address EU policy and political challenges.

With a look into such varied fields of enquiry as EU Social Policy (under the radar) in times
of austerity (Bart Vanhercke), the European Employment Strategy (Ramón Peña-Casas), Education policy (Chiara Agostini and Giliberto Capano), the impact of economic governance on wages and collective bargaining (Thorsten Schulten and Torsten Müller) and an overview of key judgments delivered by the Court of Justice in times of recession (Dalila Ghailani), the contributors to this research project present a thorough analysis of the main social developments that took place in Europe during the year 2012.
